At HeadStart, our personalized 1:1 sessions are designed to meet students wherever they are in the process of College Essay writing, providing tailored guidance to help them craft compelling essays that reflect their authentic voice. Here’s how we support students at different stages of their essay-writing journey:Initial info and exploring session is at not cost.Cost: Hourly rate $100 per hour.
For Essays, I work with one person at a time. This actual cost will be case specific.
- A new essay from scratch takes about 12-15 hours time.
- A half-done essay takes about 8-10 hours time.
- A review and change sessions takes 3-5 hours time based on the state of essay.Approach: We'll explore your background, interests, and experiences to identify potential essay topics. Once the essay is taking shape or if a student is bringing in half-done: we'll make weekly progress on video calls and/or offline updates.Review & Feedback: I'll provide written feedback on your draft, offering suggestions for improvement before your next session. Student is expected to do the same - this will be a collaborative effort so that student is part of the essay taking shape.Time expectations - usually it takes 10 - 12 weeks to write a college worthy essay. The key is ongoing cadence, feedback and revisions. I have a review panel on my side - when student (and parents) are happy with the essay they can stop.For supplemental essays, we will follow the same process listed above.Reach out wherever you are in your journey of creating an impactful Essay:1. From Exploration to Completion - For students just starting their college essay journey, we begin with in-depth exploration sessions. Once topics are finalized, we establish a weekly writing cadence. Each session focuses on drafting, reviewing, and refining the essay, ensuring steady progress. By the end of the process (~2-3 months), students have a polished, impactful essay that tells their story in a way that resonates with admissions committees.2. Transforming Good Essays into Great Ones - Some students come to us with essays already in progress but are unsure how to elevate their work. Our feedback-focused sessions provide constructive, actionable insights to strengthen their essays. We guide students in refining their narrative, improving flow, and enhancing clarity, helping them reach the finish line with confidence.3. Review sessions, polishing Essays to Perfection - For students who have completed most of their essay but want a final review, our sessions act as a fresh set of expert eyes. We focus on fine-tuning grammar, word choice, and tone while adding that extra touch to make the essay stand out. Our goal is to ensure the essay is polished, cohesive, and memorable.
About the Instructor
Mr. Dhiman (an MIT alum) founded HeadStart in 2021 starting with his daughter and a small group of motivated students preparing for college. Witnessing firsthand the challenges families face in navigating the high cost of college prep services and the inconsistent value they often deliver, he was inspired to create something better. Combining his passion for education, Mr. Dhiman developed a personalized approach focused on small, affordable group classes.HeadStart mission is simple: to guide and prep driven students who are ready to take ownership of their learning journey, equipping them with the structure, skills, cadence and confidence they need to succeed in the college admissions process.
